The 16th International Conference on Competition took place in Berlin from 20 to 22 March 2013. The conference, which has been hosted by the Bundeskartellamt every other year since the early 1980s, is one of the most internationally renowned conferences dealing with competition law issues.
With approx. 350 participants from more than 60 countries, it has once again lived up to its reputation as a forum for leading personalities and competition experts from all over the world to exchange their views and experience.
The speakers included the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, Dr Philipp Rösler, the EU Commissioner for Energy, Günther H. Oettinger, and the Chairman of the Executive Board of Merck KGaA and President of the German Chemical Industry Association, Dr Karl-Ludwig Kley.
In four panel discussions, heads of competition authorities, academics and antitrust lawyers as well as politicians and representatives of internationally active companies discussed current issues of competition law.
The conference programme can be found here.
The texts of the speeches given at the panel discussions are available at Conference Materials.
This year the Bundeskartellamt hosted for the first time a workshop for the representatives of young competition authorities on the day before the conference. The workshop met with a very positive resonance and resulted in an intensive exchange of views and experience.
The workshop programme and texts of the speeches can be found here.
I look forward to welcoming you to the 17th International Conference on Competition which will take place in 2015.
Andreas Mundt, President of the Bundeskartellamt
